There are over 500,000 unnecessary knee surgeries each year in the U.S.
Why? Fear!
We are so paranoid when it comes to knee pain that we assume that each little ache, pain or tweak is the end of the world. The media constantly reports of athletes having surgery which leads us regular folks and weekend warriors to assume that we need it too.
What people do not realize is that 90% of knee pain is sub-acute. What that means is that there is just enough strain, scar tissue or aggrevation from an old injury to cause pain, but not enough damage to show up on x-ray, MRI or exam.
Fortunately, strain, scar tissue and old injury aggrevation all respond exceptionally well to the therapies we offer in our Scottsdale clinic. Even past injuries as old as two years.
After a thorough knee, hip and low back exam which includes a full history, orthopedic testing, flexibility tests, as well as functional testing, an individualized physiotherapy program is prescribed.
Knee pain patients respond well to ultrasound, electric muscle stimulation, soft tissue therapy, range of motion and strengthening exercises, with most showing improvement in as little as 1-3 weeks.
Definitely a much better option than surgery!
