I heard a commercial the other day that said something along the lines of "Tylenol, pain relief you can trust" or "trust in Tylenol". I then thought of how many times you hear the term "I believe" or "He doesn't believe in Chiropractic."
So how is it one can trust an inanimate object, a pill, yet one believes in a specific therepeutic treatment such as Chiropractic? Are we elves that live in trees that make cookies?
Chiropractic is a profession and not a therapy. It consists of exams, tests, diagnosis, physiotherapy, massage, exercise, orthopedics, physiology, neurology, and nutrition. This is no different than Medicine not being about colds or swine flu but many therapies, interventions and specialties.
Chiropractic has been around since 1895 as a recognized and accepted profession. A lot longer than Tylenol. Today's Chiropractic is well founded in the principles of science including physics, chemistry, mathematics, physiology and neurology, which adheres to strict scientific double-blind studies for peer reviewed journals.
So, I would like to think "I trust in my Doctor" because whether it's Chiropractic or ice cubes he is "selling" me, it is about the relationship and the person you are buying and not just the product.
